Abstract Aims Frailty, a state of diminished physiological capacity to deal with external stimuli, is being seen ever increasingly in the aging emergency general surgical cohort. Length hospital stay, morbidity and mortality are shown literature dramatically increase frail population. Outcomes this cohort improve significantly specialist frailty input from geriatricians, physiotherapy occupational therapy teams. The authors aimed assess burden admissions District General Hospital, care these patients received. Methods A snapshot survey all acute during single 24 hour period was performed. Frailty defined as Rockwood Clinical Scale score 5 or above. management then compared national standards recommendations made on how treatment clinically could be improved upon. Results 73% sampled (19/26) were found frail. Only 2 (10%) had been reviewed by teams within hospital. Following implementation recommendations, namely an referral system, reminders initial clerking paperwork raising departmental awareness, threefold 32% (10/31) same patient group.
